Big Springs Float to upper Coffee Pot Campground

  • by

Big Springs is the headwaters of Henry’s Fork and is one of the largest springs in the country. The water is fairly shallow in places, requiring you to get out and push. Bring your kayaks, small rafts, canoes, or boats to float. If needed, you can rent tubes, rafts, or canoes from Macks Inn at: macksinn.com, or call 208-558-7272.

The float runs about 3 hours long with islands along the way to stop for breaks. Be sure to bring food in water proof containers, water, hats, water shoes, and sunscreen. You’ll be sure to see moose, blue herons, osprey, hawks, and possibly eagles.

Date of Float: Sunday, July 11, 2021

Directions: From Idaho Falls, Big Springs is located 88 miles north on US-20 (about 1 hour and 26 minutes). To reach the launch, turn East on The South Big Springs Road (located just before Mack’s Inn). At the sign for the boat ramp, turn left. We will leave shuttle vehicles at Upper Coffeepot campground.

Meeting: Fred Meyer/McDonalds area parking lot at 8:00 a.m. or at Mack’s Inn area at 9:30 a.m. We will discuss consolidating vehicles. Contact: Susan McKinley before day of the float at ksmckinley@msn.com.
