England Narrowboats

  • by

Our guest speaker for February 1st will be Carol (Pinky) Strong. Carol and her husband have been on two trips to England for narrow boating.

England has many historic canals and narrow boats can be rented from several places. Boats vary in size depending on how many beds you need. They have full kitchens, bathrooms, and a dining area. The boat runs on diesel at 3 mph and is guided by a tiller. The boats are 6 feet wide and can be up to 65 feet long.

Prior to the trip, you will learn to operate locks and drawbridges. You might travel through tunnels or across viaducts 200 feet up. You can pull over and stop in villages so you can eat, shop, or drink a Guinness in pubs. Then you will pull over at night, tie up, and go to sleep in your bedroom.

Along the route, you might see farm animals, birds, medieval castles, historic churches and cemeteries, and meet wonderful people.
